I was impressed, they are very good and I need to talk to you at some point about this rifle or similar. I have had a hankering for an under lever for a while and an oldish Savage would suit me nicely.

Doesn't take up much space in a cabinet and easy to carry on a bike. ;) :D

Marbles do an aperture rear sight for the 1899. :good:

Just a quick update, ammo for the 22 savage, mmm freely available freely is such a subjective word, S&B is available by the 100 at rrp £245.00, Norma is available by the 200 at about £540.00.
Cases are like rocking horse crap . I ended up with about 40 rounds from the 1950s from winchester and bought 100 S&B and I have a set of forming dies so I can squeeze 30/30 brass down to 22 sav
And 3100 fps for a 90grn bullet in your dreams.
To get around the 228 barrel I took to powder coating both cast and jacketed bullets,224 bullets need at least two coats and preferably 3 to bring them up to 2275, the cast bullets I have were 2255 and 3 coats got them up to 2285 these were the most accurate rounds I have my rifle puts 3 into an inch at 50 yards with a peep sight, then the featherweight barrel heats up and the boolits start wandering. Hornady 227 diameter sp weren't far behind but the group was equalled by 224 62 grain PPU btsp powder coated to 227 and a bit, mv around 2800.
I've been experimenting with some slip coated cast of 76 grains but they don't stabilise too well.
Powders I've used have been lovex S065 and S062 for full loads, Vv N110 and N120 for reduced loads and H-Lvr which gives the highest mv my magnetospeed has seen from the gun but it's less than 3000 fps but unfortunately they didn't group too good.
I've not really tried to get max loads as the gun is over 100 years old and I'm past chasing mv at my age.
various 22 sav.jpg
The image shows Hornady 70 grains sp, the blue boolits are 55 grain cast and the red ones are 76 grain cast, case is a necked down 30/30 cae.

Forgot to mention 4 month wait for S&B ammo,6 months estimate for the norma stuff. S&B ammo (70 grn SP) pretty accurate.
