I'd like to add a word in favour of Paul at Thames Valley Guns (http://www.thamesvalleyguns.co.uk/)

I've bought a couple of rifles from him recently, and he's currently working on a third for me, which perhaps says plenty of the quality and value for money he provides. However, over and above the provision of good rifles at great prices, is his willingness to devote plenty of time to discussing ideas and providing plenty of advice - even to us small brained creatures !

What is the next project for you?

The current project is the restoration of a Norwege Krag Jorgensen in 6.5 x55mm. The side loading magazine is quite useful down underground where headroom* can be limited...






*Headroom. Where us badgers keeps our brains. Not to be confused with headspacing, which is completely different.

All I can say is WOW! The Viking has just picked up an 8x58R Danish built Krag from the early 1890's. There are some pictures on the forum. Do you have any pictures of yours?

Here's my Norwegian Krag Jorgensen, 6.5x55, in its pre restoration state...

That is very nice, it is always good to see such things are still in circulation. Are you going to keep it as a sporter? Any idea of the year it was built and does it have the magazine cut off on the left hand side? I was trying to spot a safety catch on it but I am not sure if it has one fitted. The metalwork looks nice, has it been re-blacked at some point in the past?

No, it's planned to restore it back to the original, full length wooden stock it would have had back in 1896. I'm still trying to track down all the details, but from the serial number and a little research up at the Royal Armouries (plenty more ongoing) it looks as though it was built in 1896, then selected for re-working and had the stock cut down in 1953. It's currently with Paul at TVG being thoroughly checked over, cleaned and reblued.

It'll definitely be shot !
