Hey all!
Hello everyone!
Just thought I'd say hi. I've recently got my FAC but have been shooting for a number of years. I've already got myself a 1917 SMLE No.1 III*, looking to fill up another slot in my ticket in January, just have to decide what I want!
Regards,
Dr. S

Welcome to the forum Dr S. The III* is a good starter, my very first fullbore rifle was also a III* - not a lot you can say about them other than everyone should own one. :goodjob:

Re: Hey all!
Well, I've actually been quite lucky with my FAC.. Got another .303 slot, along with 7.62, 5.56 and .22LR.. Got to balance between cost of rifle, cost of ammunition and how much I'll enjoy shooting it! Not an easy task!
Re: Hey all!
Good selection and you could fill the slots with some good starters or some seriously expensive exotica. For me it would be a No4 Mk1 at the top of the .303 list, the 22LR – well you are spoilt for choice and the 7,62 – is that 7,62x51 and does it include .308?
No idea on .556/.223 rifles.

Re: Hey all!
Yeah, tempted by a No.4 or maybe a No.5.. As for the .22, I'll probably go for the Sig 522, have heard very good things about them and they seem to be the most fun we can have as civilians! The 7.62 is only 7.62 (7.62-by-what isn't specified) on my ticket but I can have .308 ammo!
The FEO said it would be okay to change the slot to .308. I'd absolutely love an AI but will probably have to settle for something in 7.62x54R for the time being!
Would like a 5.56 straight-pull but again they're quite dear! Or an Armalon AL42...
Hmm, think I'll have to start buying lottery tickets!

Re: Hey all!
I am impressed that you managed to get an open 7,62 as that covers X39 X54R and X51. The moment you add .308 to it you are knocked back to 7,62x51. A Mosin Nagant would be a good starter and milsurp 54R is still readily available. If you are not going to reload initially ammunition is a costly requisite.
I have a couple of AI’s in the cabinet and these days they are mostly fed on Danish or South African milsurp which can give a huge amount of fun even out to 1000 yards.
Which is your local range?

Re: Hey all!
Me too! I asked for 7.62mm/.308in in the application but the FEO said I had to choose one or the other.. A friend of mine is an RFD who has a complete reloading setup so for the time being I think I'll just go to his place.
A couple of AIs... Surely you don't need more than one?
Local range when at home is Bisley, otherwise it'd be Warcop/Altcar.
