I was a regular attender at Juniper Green, but haven't been to your club - just saw a poster once.jojo wrote:DL.: You are actually the first person who has ever mentioned this. From what I know, we are the only club in the city centre itself. The rest of Edinburgh/lothian clubs are generally on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The facility itself as you've mentioned it is probably still there, as dungeons get rarely destroyed here. However, I have never heard of that being used. This year I was lucky enough to meet one of your alumni ladies who was actually co-founding the club in the very early stages. She mentioned that they used to practice outdoors somewhere around Holyrood area and that she witnessed the transition into the CSE basement facilities. That was around 1950 I guess. The Edinburgh Uni Rifle Club must have somewhat really long and interesting history, worth recording it... if only there was time for it! If I find more info about the Waverley facility, I'll let you know. Btw CSE has changed a lot in the past 3 years, so I guess after 15 you wouldn't recognise it at all . The club is still a crazy bunch though!
Dromia: Thanks for the PM, I'll try my best. Otherwise I'll let you know if 5 turns out to be impossible in a reasonable time-scale without spamming here .
Many thanks for a warm welcome everybody! I'll try to achieve 5 relevant posts, although, as I said, not too much of a forum person.
The waverley range is to me, a very interesting thought, I don't believe we are very well catered for in this country in comparison to the rest of europe.
Re: Another hello from Scotland :)
DL.: We had a little discussion about the range in Waverley just between our current members and noone ever heard about it. Then, 10mins later an electrician who was doing some job outside the door walked in and was asking about our range. Out of nothing he mentioned the Waverley range, two people in less than a week! End of the line, I asked him what he knew and he didn't give me much help. He said he believed it was still running. So, not much help there. Anyways as we were thinking about it. Our range is a dungeon as well and we quite like it. But as it was below Waverley station it must have been dreadful. It anyone here ever shot smallbore in Glasgow, you will know. Range in Glasgow is next to a railway and you need to really watch out for the train coming. I can imagine a range below a trainstation, they did not get much target high-precision prone done at all .
Well, as a matter of fact. European shooting? Depends where. If I were you I would appreciate the level UK shooting currently is. Well, gun licensing restrictions in the UK are not what I agree with, but shooting facilities are nice and do the job they're meant to. Just as a matter of Scotland. Several indoor/outdoor smallbore ranges in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, St. Andrews etc. Then, the lovely Blair Atholl and Castle Law. Not to forget Cluny Clays!

Re: Another hello from Scotland :)
The 5 post limit was set by our Admin. No matter you just need one more post and you can start by PM'ing her and telling her the rules are crap.
Nice range BTW, I like the idea of shooting off the bunk bed affair, very good

Re: Another hello from Scotland :)
I am in a few clubs in Fife and shoot over in West Lothian on a farm, we have a few senior members in our club, they would definately be using the bottom bunk and wouldn't make it to the top bunk... Nice picture..
Re: Another hello from Scotland :)
Yeah, the top bunk is only used when the range get busy. And having three people up there, gets a bit shaky, yet you can manage to shoot well, it just depends on timing...
