Greetings Everyone

#1 Post by Liquidice »

Hello to everyone, I wanted to introduce my self as a new member here on Full Bore.

Just a brief intro of who I am, what I do and what experiences I have.

My name is Nikos ( yep it's Greek) nickname liquidice
Day job is an Aviation Consultant primarily in Air Traffic Control disciplines.

I love flying my helicopter and shooting as often as I possibly can.
Which brings me to our topic,

Given the fact that I moved to Greece from a very young age ( Greek dad- English mum)
I had substantial exposure to firearms from a young age both in the form of hunting and competitive shooting. I took up IPSC Practical shooting when I was 14 and by the age of 17 I was the Greek champion in the Junior under 21 category in the Open class.
I actually have a video during my years of prime.

Im the guy with the hat , using a SPS in 38super cal. With a compensator, aim point extended beaver tail , extended magwell and plenty of internal mods on the trigger slide etc....

So fast forward now. I have been back in the Uk since 1999 for my studies and working since. I just did a 2 year stint as an expat in sunny Libya until all hell broke loose.
Now am back home and somehow I managed to reignite my old passion for target shooting / hunting.
Whilst in Greece over the festive season and whilst visiting the family my old man suggested we go wild boar hunting again as we hadn't done it for close to a decade.

I visited the NRA at bisley a few ago and joined as a member. ( thank you for the great hospitality and friendly environment ) last weekend I went to Meet Chris who carried out my sucessfull assessment being an experienced user of a firearm.

I am now in the process of reviewing what paper work I need to get my FAC done, I live in CRAYFORD which comes under the METs Umbrella for licensing. I was told by the club that I need to have a probationary status for 3 months before I can book a range target etc.

I managed last weekend to book a rage and put 60 .303 rounds down range at 100yards with a SMLE. I tried to book another target for today or this weekend and was told I can only shoot with other full member .... Or else wait for the club days... Don't get me wrong by they only have these days 2 days a month. And since I have plenty of free tine now in my hands I wanted to take the oportunity to go more often.. But came across this hurdle.

Do other member from here organise to go on various days and are happy to take another member with them to shoot with them in " supervision mode" if so please do let me know as I am very interested in going more often. I'm only an hour away from bisley so getting there at short notice is not an issue.

Well that's me in a nut shell.. Hope I haven't dragged on for much

Thank you all in advance for your support and advice

Hi and welcome

Welcome to the mine-field that is; UK firearms laws. You'll love 'em*

* This is not a gurantee, you will end up hating them. Side effects include. Swearing, weeping like a child in frustration, considering moving countries.

If you need advice about licensing and such we'll all be happy to help

Thank you all for the warm greetings.

Question remains... Is there a list on the forum about member getting together and going to venues to shoot? Do you guys and girls meet up or everyone does there own thing?

I'm keen to know as I said I ve got loads of free time on my hands and wanted to go pickle some rounds down range. But I don't have a shooting buddy to go with. I can hire a rifle from the armoury but can't book a target.... So need babysitting :0037: anyone??? sign85

I mean it's silly, u can hire a rifle as a prob member but not book a target....

Let me know I can even do PM today :run:

Welcome Nikos, have you joined the NRASC as well as the NRA? There is ameeting on the 7th February plus a gest day end of this month.

We have many members that shoot at Bisley and we have met up as a forum in the past (This is a relatively new forum so only the one formal meeting so far) The good weather is already with us so we need to get something sorted soon I think.

Nice pistol shooting BTW :good:

Hi ovenpaa

Yep as far as I am aware when I did my NRA membership you also get SC membership.
I spoke to Caroline two days ago she mentioned to me the shoot on feb 7th but that's ages from now... sign01 I mean a place like bisley only puts on 2 SC events a month?? What do they do other 29 days?? People want to spend their money and they don't want it.... :cool2:

I am in if anyone is interested in going soon....

Hi Nikos and welcome to FBUK. I'm up in Scotland so don't get to Bisley however, there are folk on here who go down fairly often and we have even been known to meet up too. I'm sure someone will be along soon that has plans to shoot there in the near future.

Aye, what Ovenpaa said. Serves me right for making a cup of tea and reading the paper half way through writing a post
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

I think that you have to formally "join" the NRASC, but there is no extra fee for doing so.
