Wanted K98

#1 Post by froggy »

Salut,

I am looking for a good standard german made K98.
I want primarily a good shooter but I am also after a rifle with some "historical integrity", ie : as close as possible to the original condition.

So it needs to :
- be in the original 7.92x57 caliber,
- have good bore,
- clean action,
- goodish over-all condition,
- good amount a original finish (blueing/phosphate if late),
- matching # would be great but I can live with slight mis-match,

The above is not cast in iron & I am open to "options". For exemple I would concider a matching numbers one even if it has been re-blued, or same # but different bolt #
etc... etc ... that sort of things ...

I am not fuss pre/early or late war, plain/laminated stock or milled/stamped fittings.
I appreciate it is not such an easy rifle to find, it's not going bargain basement price but I am in no rush .

If you see, hear of one fitting the bill many thanks to let me know :good:

Hi Froggy,
It might be worth keeping an eye on Holts Auctioneers website as they sometimes come up.They have a good website and hold auctions in Norfolk and central London usually about 6 times a year. At the moment they dont have any K98's listed (a whole load of Enfields thou!)
If you fancy a foray to the wilds of Norfolk for a viewing or to attend an auction, give me a shout as you can use our place for a watering hole.

Or there's one at

It's stock No 1198. No idea as to condition or matching numbers, but might be worth a phone call?

Looks like a late one and has had turret scope bases fitted at some time, they may or may not be original. So yes worth a phone call.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Many thanks for your help :good:
Sim G - I can not open the page without being a member. Is the maker "237" made in 40 ?
MrD - The stock looks like a replacement but I have sent him a mail & waiting for his answer.
