fox gun confusion

#1 Post by Dellboy »

Need to put in a 1 for 1 on my ticket and have the chance to shoot some foxes prbably inside 150 yards

now i was going for a 22 hornet pref a cz but have been offered a 77 ruger whats everyones thoughts

also a couple of people reckon that a 222 or 223 or even 243 would be a better bet now im not going out every weekend and i dont want something so fast the barrel will suffer

But im getting more confused everytime i read something ......

I always think the 22-250 makes a good Foxer but they are fairly heavy on barrels, having said that how many shots a year do you plan on taking with it?

Speak to your FEO - some forces won't give a .243 just for fox. The hornet will do the job nicely, personally I use a .223, I have it on my FAC for vermin, fox and small deer (Munti and CWD)

I use the Hornet and the .222" I carry the .222" as it does roe as well (Scotland). If it was just fox the the Hornet would do me nicely I might have to pass on the odd long shot but I like close as I can get and then some.

Hornet's a perfectly solid fox gun, had one for ages and shot plenty of foxes with it. Now I use 222, or 223. I have both, and 222 was meant to sit between Hornet and 223 as I could never decide which to take.

For me, 222 works very well indeed and is the one I tend to use.

243 works but it's really suited for open countryside at long range.

For shooting foxes - why not a canon, or nikon, or fuji.....they're quite interesting creatures :good:

Fair enough - I can understand someone shooting foxes to protect their livestock...I just don't understand why so many want to do for them...
