I just found this and have to say for the period those photo's are amazing. Was there anyone else anywhere producing stuff this good? If not then Sergei was obviously years ahead of his time. I just searched for more of his stuff and the Library of Congress has some if you fancy a look. Here's another of his photos from 1915, you have to admit the detail is very impressive.

He took three pictures of the same motif, one red, one blue and one green. Then merged them to get a full colour picture. That is genius in itself however it is the details in the photographs I cannot get over. He was using slides, this was some 25 years before kodakchrome entered the scene, we have all seen the grey ish unclear photographs from the turn of the century, the fact that his photographs turned out in such detail is mind boggling.
