Is he mounting it "Scout fashion"? If so, he needs an intermediate eye relief scope and not long.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Why would you mount a scope scout fashion on a underlever.?

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO MOUNT A SCOPE ON A UNDERLEVER ANY WAY.?

Its just so wrong.

Who needs a scope? I zeroed in my new Williams sight tonight and shot a 300/17x with a rear aperture that was probably too wide..

I have a williams sight on mine I can put them all in the ten ring at 25meters. Why would you need a scope.

Possibly because he can?

It is not that unusual to see scoped lever actions in some competition circles and if his eyes are as poor as mine he will need some form of optic.

I have a Leupold Scout scope on one of my Marlins. As fast as a red-dot with the precision of a scope. Irons can not even come close. 25yds? Take my .44 out to 300 regularly.

Why scope a lever gun? Get outside the box......

Well good for you but I would never fit a scope on a under lever and I have at least six rifles that are much better suited to shooting out to 300yds.

I apologize for hijacking the thread I have nothing else to add except to say I have a long eye relief scope fitted to a Mosing nagant using a Darrel mount and it shoots very well.

I have had it out to 300yds with good results.

Good luck in your search I bought mine on the internet it came from the States and was cheap. But it works very well.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

Like I said, it's not for me it's for a friend and I am merely repeating his request! Perhaps an intermediate eye relief scope is the way to go, Ill pass it on.

Cheers John.
