Are the two of them bolted together as well? I always try and bolt ours together and to the floor and wall as well.

No there not , although the ammo box did have 2 holes in the base, would have done this if safe had the same holes but dont really want to be drilling holes into the safe, due to its cost.. Although i have no problem with the ammo safe cause it cost around £40, so no great lose there :good:

All of out cabinets, safes and ammunition lockers are bolted together as lumps which is mostly to make things harder for the crims however it is not really necessary, just me being extra paranoid I guess.

These are what I use (M10 thunderbolts) they are a great bit of kit, they can be reused but only good for solid walls.

I've used the thunderbolts on other stuff before (gate/post I think) and they are awesome!!

I have Thermalite block inner walls with plasterboard so ended up using 12mm Rawl R-Kem resin fixings set in a plastic mesh sleeve. I had to slightly widen the 10mm holes in the back of the safe but they work perfectly now and, as my FEO said "that ain't going anywhere!". Don't know what'll happen if we ever move though...

Did not use those thunder bolts in the pic, just the wall bolts supplied with the safe and ammo container, although had to change ammo bolts due to being sh**.

One question, the FAO aint going to try to pull the safe off the wall is he, or will he just look and say, (hopefully) YES fingerscrossed

Depends on the individual. I have heard some will try, or put their weight on the open door and swing on it. I had already sent mine a photo of where I intended to put it and what I would fix it with, then explained exactly how I had bolted it in place. He just looked inside, gave it a little tug, and checked there was space for what I'd asked for.
By that stage he probably figured I was telling the truth and hadn't just leant it against the wall with some bolt-heads blu-tacked over the holes to look like the real thing!

Hi,

What "Dave 101" said is a good advise, I had to do it on mine, then I used a "Repair Washer" to make the hole look nicer.

I used "Anchor Bolts", the ones that are a sleeve, a rod and a nut. It's not a bolt. The problem is that the rod always protrudes too much and may scratch the guns...so remember to cut the extra length with a dremel. I hav eput some foam padding to cover the nuts to avoid scratching the guns.

If the rod slips in the hole while tightening it, make a slot with the dremel and then you can use a screwdriver to hold the rod in place till it grips on the hole.

Regards

Would it be possible to use a 'proper' safe as i have been offered them in the past ,the last big one would have stored 15 guns easy and would need 4 men to move it ,only one key lock 9 lever i think, locking points on all 4 sides of the door (1.5 inch stainless rods 2 on each side ) but 4 external hinges .

WHAT DO YOU THINK ?
