Douglas and his son Daniel showed me the ropes on a black powder pistol.

I thought it was great, loved the smell and the whole experience. That will be my first purchase without a doubt, followed by a .303 if I can crack this reloading lark, I think you can shoot them in-doors any????

Regards

Chris

Indeed you can, suitably down-loaded to within the range specs of course!.

Taking my .44 Henry down in the morning to run it over the chronograph and will probably be taking the Steyr and Howa .308s with subsonic loads to get them done as well

Indeed. take a .308, add a 205g cast boolit, 10.5g of Trail Boss and a moderator and it makes a surprisingly loud "click" when it's fired

Most of us use 115gns soupcan boolits with 4 grains of any fast pistol powder, cheap and accurate at 25yrds in any .243 - 323" calibre rifle. Heavier boolits are just a waste of lead. My 6.5 boolit does drop at 120 gns though.

I'll have to have a look at those, I got the 205g off Dodgyrog for use in the 300BLK (eventually!), most of the subsonic loads for the 16" barrel are for 220g.

No need for that at 25 yrds, the heavy boolit is for the longer ranges the lack of velocity is overcome by the momentum of a heavier boolit, just like long range BPCR shooting.

Mind you the soupcans work out well to 100 yrds at 900-1000 fps. 50-75 yrds I have found to be the optimum range for these loads as far as grouping is concerned. Anyone interested in subsonic rounds should read Harris's seminal work Cast Bullets in Military Rifles based on Mattern's earlier classifications, a copy of which is lodged in the Library.
