The above conversion is a no go in the uk as you would have a section 5 semi auto .223.
Just get a cmmg .22lr rifle and a .223 straight pull upper

Using a conversion unit is a very good way of practising with your full size AR15! It is in no way section 5, you have a straight pull 5.56/.223 which you convert to a firearm which can only chamber .22lr you never have a self loading centre fire!
Depending on barrels you can get some very poor or very good accuracy my .22 conversion shoots about an inch at 50yds. I get a lot of range time with my full bore trigger and rifle all be it semi automatically in .22.
A complete top end would be more accurate though!
As for the Cmmg quality a friend shot his straight out of the box at the weekend 200 rounds not a single stoppage or jam......

So the fact uk spec .223 Ar15s don't have a gas/piston system how do they work in semi auto with a .22?
The USA drop in .22 bolt for cmmg makes use of all the semi auto working of the centre fire rifle, so the fact our Centerfire versions are missing this the .22 version would be straight pull Aswell?

Wrong, they are allowed and are not S5.

The conversion unit makes use of any of the semi automatic AR15 components,
It is a blowback operated bolt with its own chamber that drops into the .223/5.56 chamber.
Shooting is seems to be full of "instant experts".....

Thats a good point , if I can get an AR such as the CMMG with semi auto .22 and straight pull .223 for around tye £1500 mark I'd be interested. Otherwise I will look to buy A .22 Ruger and a standalone straight pull AR.
If thats the case, can anyone recommend a .223 AR at around the £1250 level, thid would leave me funds for a .22 Ruger.
Cheers

Just to expand on the above. Blowback means the force of the shot causes the bolt to retract and rechamber the next round. You can't have a blowback bolt in .223 as the force of the round being discharged would put too much stress on the rifle, which is why they use a gas system on semi/full auto .223 rifles.

+1 for Spikes & NWCP. I think they represent good value for money and I'm considering buying a third rifle from them.

So, just to clarify for we small brained kreechers, it's possible to own and AR style straight pull rifle in .223 / 5.56, and convert it to a semi-auto in .22LR (or .22 Win Mag ?) by swapping out the working parts ?
*Whole new vista of ideas floats into view*

It's never been done in .22 mag as a conversion unit
Basically remove .223/5.56 bolt and carrier, insert conversion unit and your shooting .22 takes under a minute!
