Approx 85 per discipline (F/TR and F Open) over 3 details per distance.

It is purely an F class comp (so F class targets) and as far as I know counts as one of the league shoots.

It was well run, Mik looked goosed by the end of it all.

If only the phoenix was run like this.....

My only gripe was a deaf safety sup who was not relaying the orders to our end, so we lost out a bit but guessed we had message 1 when the targets popped up.

I then had to chase the deaf old sod halfway down the line to give him the score cards.

I suggested he did not bother with the ear deffs, he had no use for them tesnews

Joking aside, worth entering but you do need to reflect on success in context.

My biggest personal triumph was actually my lowest score because I beat so many I should not have done in the same detail and same conditions....that shook me to be fair.

As did my level of concentration. It was odd, I don't remember much of it, just dashing the plotting down and focussing on the ruddy flags again in case I missed a change....such as I could make any sense of it.

It is quite intense. My rifle did an impression of a falling redwood out of the cabinet on the first morning, thankfully I had time to grab a lane at 100 to sort the zero out.

I hardly spoke to Tim or the others much over the weekend, you were either falling back, chuntering, scrounging off of ovenpaa, or trying to time it right with getting your kit out with it looking like it should rain...which was mercifully light in the end.

Seriously, you do not have to own a top flight rifle to give it a go.

yep, Maxine saw some sort of conflagration with the RO pointing and arm waving, then the mad one leaving the point.

Its a shame really, but the MO seems to find plotting a waste of time.

MO had a misfire next to me once, you would think that a WOMBAT was about to be fired.

I was fully expecting a mine taped cordon....it was its usual trick...forgot to put something in to make it go bang clapclap

Did it to me twice in the phoenix and flatly refused to call my scores so the next person in line was never sure if I had fired or not....then went bezzy at me when I fired out of turn....and I was so understanding....there there dear, don't worry, we all do it.....

I miss my yellow stick when I am RO....it would come in handy, especially as civvies don't wear Kevlar lids tesnews

You need to give some indication as to why F class events are not run like this at the Phoenix to offer any chance of the organizers changing things.

I have shot the 4/5/600 & 8/9/1000 a few times at the Phoenix and thoroughly enjoyed it. The event is different to the Euros and every bit as enjoyable however it is a bit of a stretch if you want to shoot both comps in one day, doable all the same. The Euro is a two or three day specifically for F Class shooters. Both attract shooters from other countries and I would not like to see the format of either changed.

Agreed Dave, the one I shot in could have been better but was good, as have many other comps been.

The phoenix is not a fair comparison as the F class part is only a small part of it, its a huge comp and the resources must be hard to manage.

In the comps I have shot in, wrong targets being hoisted, Shooters unable to retrieve rifles from armoury in time to shoot (but there when asked to be).

Firers ready and on time for first detail but unable to shoot as butts part ambled up to the targets late, constant slippage of time, amongst others, very poor marking at times.

But

My point was that the Euros was well run and could be an example for others. Most of the issues in the other comps (that have been commented on to the NRA as well as credit for an otherwise good comp) can be sorted by management/planning/learning for the next time.

Don't forget that folk can spend a lot of money on comp shooting, and to have a crap comp because of a poor marker or some aspect that should not have gone wrong is poor. A comp that people are paying for, travelling for, and competing in should be a showcase of what the organisers can manage.

One of our guys fell foul in the Euros last year where a marker missed a shot and marked the wrong hole. He then corrected on it and blew the shoot.

The Euros were very well run.

Phoenix year before last we waited for over an hour because a TR National team were running late with their training, as a consequence we went on late and were really pressed to get finished, I remember jogging from the 500 to 600 yard point. The good news is we had a chance to catch up and have a good natter whilst we waited and I remember the Viking was engrossed in a deep conversation with someone odd, maybe one of the LR Pistol shooters

The Phoenix is one of the most relaxed F Class comps you will ever shoot and with two competitions on the day for under GBP35.00 is has to be worth attending
