We know 3D printing is all the rage, ooman, but we're quite impressed if you have managed to scan and photocopy all those magazines...

These do look good... when (if?) I get an FAC, they are right up on my list for PSG...

is there anything else out there that is worthy of a look? I only know of the Saiga and the Bora...

Theres also the MKA1919 which is where the Bora99 spawned from. There are 2 models of MKA1919, the pre-XN and post XN models and there are subtle differences which mean that certain after market parts will or won't fit the gun.

I had a good look at a Vepr at C&G, I thought it was awesome. There's has a whacking great big muzzle break which made it look particularly savage. It is potentially on my shopping list when my S1 shotgun variation comes through, but are they any good for PSG? What about the AR15 style S1 shotguns, are they as good? Any limitation on using this style of shotgun in competitions?

The Vepr is the beefier version of the Saiga, both of which you could use to knock in nails, just like the AK/RPK they get their receivers from. The AR-15 ones on the other hand (MKA1919 & Bora) are plastic fantastic jobs that you couldn't knock a marshmallow in with. However they are also half to a third of the price of a Vepr/Saiga because of this.

FYI I'm getting a Bora 99 as soon as my FLD pull their fingers out and get my variation done. I wanted a box fed shotgun for a while but the Russian guns were just far too expensive, plus i personally don't like how ridiculously long the 24" barrel looks on them. :run: The AR guns on the other hand have a longer foreguard and therefore look more proportionate to me

Shooting any IPSC rulebook match with a box fed gun puts you in Open division, which is the 'anything goes' division, red-dot/optical sights, ported barrels, muzzle brakes, frickin' lazer beams - everything!

Up until the MKA1919 and Bora came out there were very few people shooting Open division (because you basically had to be willing to spend £2000+ for the gun required). Now the cheaper guns are out there more people are trying Open division, i think F4i matches in particular have seen a significant increase. I'll hopefully be shooting Open this year too.

Thanks for the reply and all the info. Would you be disadvantaged in the open division with the longer barrel of the Vepr? Is weight that much of a consideration?

frickin' lazer beams
I am definitely drawn to the Vepr, it looks amazing IMO. We have PSG at our local range, I presume I wouldn't be able to use a Vepr for it, i.e. it's unlikely to be open division... Does that sound about right?

You'd be at no disadvantage with the Vepr barrel shooting against other UK shooters because you'd all have at least a 24" barrel, its no longer than the AR-15 shotguns, its just more exposed. This is an entirely cosmetic 'issue' and only a 'problem' for gun tarts like me :good:

However, if you took it abroad you'd be at a disadvantage to shooters who have a 18/20" (proper length  ) barrel as they would be more maneuverable and faster on target.

If its a local match its unlikely to be IPSC sanctioned (although it could still be being shot to the IPSC rulebook) so there'll probably be NO divisions, as there aren't enough people there to justify having separate divisions, everyone just shoots against everyone - bit of a bu66er for people using pumps, but as i use a semi i don't mind  The only reason you wouldn't be able to use the Vepr is if everyone else gets sick of you winning all the time and kick you out of the club!
