hmm.....very tempting, been looking recently at myford lathes. how heavy is it, can it be stripped down at all for moving about.

It is probably around the 100kg mark however you can drop the tool post and tail stock off in 90 seconds which makes a difference and removing the motor takes a few minutes more and means it is quote a straight forward lift for two people.

cheers fella. i have my eye on a couple as would really like a 3/4 jaw chuck with it. what collets does the collet chuck take, ie er25,er32.

It takes the ER32 type collets. As an example RDG do a set for around GBP80.00 which goes from 2,0mm to 20,0mm. They also stock 3 jaw chucks and back plates. The ER 32 Collets are remarkably repeatable and I have taken a work piece out and clocked it when replaced and seen it within .001" which is OK.

Alternatively 5C collets are more accurate however they are also more expensive and less flexible so I tend to only buy the ones I need whereas the ER32 set covers everything from 2-20mm

thats handy. we have stacks of er32 collets at work, im sure they wont miss a few. its a bit of a trek to bedford from where i am, and im out and about this weekend, but in the opposite direction. i will see when im available and let you know.
