Helikon SFUs, 25 quid and knee inserts for them are about 11 quid on eBay..

Yeah, something like the above ^^^, or you could just go for the BlackHawk! ones. They are a bit of a faff when they fall down, but they work well enough even if they do look a little silly.

Just a follow-up on this...
I tried the Dickies trousers (in a couple of sizes) with the knee-pad inserts. They didn't work for me: when I'd kneel to shoot I would often come down with my knee-cap above or to the side of the pad. I can imagine they'd work a lot better in a work environment where you can adjust them when kneeling (and aren't trying to move briskly with a rifle in your hands).
I bought a pair of "Erwin Professional Wide-Body Knee Pads". These seem to work ok, based on brief usage, though I did get a couple of odd looks :-)
