The way I see it, the 416 replica is just that, it's a heavyweight airsoft gun with a .22 action inside. If I was going the Umarex route now, I'd get the Beretta ARX-160, it comes apart just like the real thing and doesn't have a joke barrel.
The 15-22 was developed from the start to be a .22, so it's all i needs to be and nothing more. More and more aftermarket bits are becoming available too.

Sorry techgue but you don't there to light.
Argh! How can I even take your post seriously when you can't quote my name correctly, or even construct a coherent sentence?!
Back to the OP. What do you want to use it for? Might help in qualifying my suggestion.
I have a straight pull AR (and will be getting 2 more this year), just come back from shooting AR's in the USA. For minirifle, multi-gun and general plinking my 15-22 is perfect. I'd like a full weight AR for more realistic training and practice for my next USA trip and 3-gun matches, but to me, it's not worth spending 3 times the cost of my .22 for a heavier .22!
The HK416 has a really nice feel to it (I shot one a few weeks back) but it's not as easy to clean as an AR/15-22 and if you shoot .22 often, you'll need to clean it regularly to keep it running!
Sorry techguy iPad corrected me a usual and made me look silly. The smith as far as function ability is superb but I found it to light. I bought it as my practise gun for positional shooting as it was a waste shooting .223 at 25 yards. But it's just not comparable to my Ar. But it depends what you want it for.

Thanks for the advice everyone, in a perfect world id like one for benchrest shooting, but I don't think any .22LR AR would be accurate enough for that, so I would probably use it for hunting & plinking at the range.

Consider also a Spikes ST-22 - then you can whack a full-bore upper on it later.
Mine's laser accurate and very dependable.

MP15-22 gets my vote too, I've just bought the compact 12" barrel version. If you want a heavier firearm you can swap out the polymer hand guard for something more sturdy without too much fuss. Various places sell CMMG and Spike .22's or you could buy a .223 AR then get a .22LR conversion kit to stick in it. Costs about £320 but you'll need ".22 conversion unit" on your ticket.

+1. I'd get a .22lr with a milspec lower whether it be Spikes, CMMG, Lantac, BAR or whatever you feel like buying from the states. That way it's half future proof and you can swap and change the lower with any milspec upper if you decide to go that way. eg. another .22lr, .223 or 300BLK. Also if you want accuracy go for a dedicated upper rather than a conversion.
Personally I've never been fan of polymer but the M&P 15-22 has had good reviews considering it's price. I'd avoid replica's.

i had this dilema with myself after getting a fully kitted up lantac raven .22. I saw the mp15-22 at the h4h shoot and started to wonder if id wasted a small fortune, the 15-22 cycled great everything and functions as it should. however the minute i picked up my raven again i knew where my money had gone it felt bomb proof, perfectly weighted for me and scary acurate (ive been hitting cadburys mini eggs @100m today
) in all honesty for mini rifle it might even be too good, but i wouldnt change it.
id say if budget allows get the lantac but if funds are a bit tight you wouldnt be disapointed with the mp 15-22

One thing I forgot to say, I will only be shooting between 25 to 100 yards,
Rich I think you've just made my mind up for me, if I could hit mini eggs at 100 yard I would be well chuft, thanks again.

Bear in mind Rich can shoot very well (annoying sod) but the gun will certainly do it.
