Section 1 application wording

Re: Section 1 application wording
In the middle of my last variation letter:
"The other new “slot” applied for is a 12 bore shot gun (and Section 1 ammunition for said shot gun).
The primary “Good Reason” for this shot gun and Section 1 ammunition is Target Shooting on
approved ranges, however additional conditioning for the shot gun is requested for Target Shooting
over an approved course of fire and Clay Pigeon Shooting (additional conditions requested in accordance with Appendix 3 of the Guide on Firearms Licensing Law 2013 publication. Clay Pigeon Shooting to
exclude Section 1 ammunition).
As per Paragraph 2.50 of the Guide on Firearms Licensing Law 2013 publication an additional
ammunition allowance for Section 2 Shot Gun ammunition is not requested."
A little convoluted and I actually screwed up slightly by asking for bird/vermin control (long story, I'd misunderstood a couple of paragraphs (10.38, 10.44) in the guidance).
I asked for 300 slug- bear in mind there's no longer a buy/hold distinction.
Not yet heard back so don't take this as gospel!

/\ This Although they may ask you where you intend to actually shoot (and if you are a member of a PSG club then put it down), but being a member of UKPSA or F4i usually suffices.phaedra1106 wrote:Multi Shot shotgun for PSG/Target/Clay pigeon
As for Solid Slug, depends on your force, Durham (Cough, Spit) allow 150, if you can show sufficient usage it may be increased.
I asked Durham for 250/300 and got it without issue. But then i don't pester them with bi-weekly variations for the oddest guns on the planet

Me? Surely not!.
On the other hand, given the appalling phone call I got off them last week about Jareds application it looks like we'll be getting BASC onto them and/or ending up in court with them. And maybe adding a civil case for infringement of his human rights, breach of the Disability Discrimination Act and deformation of character etc. etc. as well depending on what load of crap they come back with, still waiting for the call back to arrange a meeting with chief inspector Ball.

They also gave me a variation for one section 1 double barrelled shotgun. Without any questions at all.snayperskaya wrote:Perhaps they had foreseen the coming of the Vepr!!!breacher wrote:Hertfordshire gave me 1000 slug buy and 1200 possess, a few years ago - I think they made a mistake
I got a VERY short side by side hammer gun. When the FEO seen it he laughed and said "Well, if I had known what you were getting a sawn off I might have refused"

Re: Section 1 application wording
The bit to be careful on is the conditions that allow you to do conventional shotgun stuff with a S1 smoothbore gun, and conditions that may allow you to use slug (Section 1) in a shotgun that is otherwise S2. This gets messy and needs someone who actually understands to advise. The example conditions in the Guidance don't, I understand, cover all reasonable possibilities.

Re: Section 1 application wording
Thanks for the comments, and corrections or changes that anyone can suggest?
I have read the HO guide (or parts of) and the Clay Pigeon condition seems to be automatic.
It will on te form be in BLOCK CAPITALS as that is what they request!Section 16:
12 Bore Multi-shot Shotgun PSG / Target Shooting / Clay Pigeon
Section 17 (ammunition):
12 Bore S.1 Slug or similar 300
Then in Part E:
I have requested a 12 bore multi-shot shotgun and section 1 ammunition for said shotgun.
"Good Reason" for this shotgun and s.1 ammunition is for practical target shooting on approved ranges and target shooting over an approved course of fire. With an additional conditions allowing the shotgun to be used for clay pigeon targets.

That seems wrong for the FLO to mention cost.Morph wrote:My Slug Purchase/Hold was granted on what I asked for 300/350.
The FEO did frown a little and ask ask if I knew the cost of Slug ammunition. sign01
However when I said I had shotshell reloading kit & slug moulds and intendid to "roll my own" he was fine with the numbers :shakeshout:
If an applicant can't use cost as good reason to specify a requested ammunition holding allowance, then why can they use cost as a reason to offer a lower amount? :cool2:

Approved by what person / authority ?
Is there any mention of your rifle target shooting needing to be "approved" ?

Re: Section 1 application wording
This is what mine says,
"The 12 bore Shot Guns/ Solid Slug shall be used for practical target shooting:-
a. on ranges suitable for the safe use of that class of firearm and with adequate financial arrangements in place to meet
any injury or damage claim, or:
b. over a course of fire approved by a qualified member of the UKPSA on land over which the holder has lawful
authority to shoot."
And also,
"The smooth bore shotgun to which this certificate relates may also be used for clay pigeon shooting."
