Any news on this, a friend wants to buy an 8mm Danish Krag, but is now in limbo until this issue is resolved.

RANGE SAFETY NOTICE 14-04 CIVILIAN GUN CLUBS USING .50in (12.7mm)
1. In light of a recent incident involving a .50in (12.7mm) calibre rifle, it has been identified that if an error of drill takes place there can be a dangerous occurrence.
2. The purpose of this Range Safety Notice is to inform users of the dangers of this event, give guidance on how to prevent this event happening in the future and keep the risk to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
3. The dangerous occurrence takes the form of a double feed, i.e. a round is chambered and a second round is attempted to be fed into the chamber; during this event the second round may strike the percussion cap of the chambered round. Due to the mechanical safety not being in a locked position at this point, then a breech explosion may occur.
4. In the event of a double feed, the design of some weapons does not allow the second round to engage the percussion cap of the chambered round, the nose of the bullet of the second round will either strike the base of the round off the percussion cap or attempt to go under the round. This is the best case.
5. All civilian clubs, who are users of 12.7mm weapon systems are to identify if their weapon are capable of producing this dangerous occurrence. Guidance on how to achieve this is as follows:
a. USING DRILL ROUNDS ONLY load a round into the chamber and with the magazine fitted, try to load another round. Observe the position of the nose of the second round. If it is in contact with the percussion cap, then the weapon is capable of a breech explosion during an accidental double feed.
b. If the second round is not in contact with the percussion cap, there is a good chance that there will not be a breech explosion during the accidental double feed.
16. If a 12.7mm calibre weapon is to be fired on a MoD range and has been identified to be capable of a breech explosion through a double feed, then that weapon can only be hand loaded, i.e. it cannot be fitted with a magazine.
7. Using a blanking plate in lieu of a magazine will not remove the possibility of a double feed.
8. It is recommended that the NRA conduct a trial in order to identify which weapons are compliant with the ALARP principle and police accordingly, using the procedure described in paragraph 5. a. above.
9. Once it has been established if the 12.7mm weapon system is compliant with either para 5.a. or 5. b. above, then they are to employ the appropriate method and may fire on again on MoD ranges.
10. The ban on the ammunition listed in RANGE SAFETY NOTICE 14-03 is now lifted. Effective Date
The required action is to be taken immediately on receipt of this notice.

Surely it's within the ability of the MoD to actually establish which models of .50cal/12.7mm rifles are at risk, rather than leave the conclusion so open. I could understand this degree of vagueness were .308W rifles in question, but there are only a finite number of .50cal weapon designs currently in circulation.

Point 8 recommends that the NRA do this.
