As far as I can see, you load is too light. Considering the maximum B/P you can get into a modern percussion revolver is around 27gns of B/P, the manual recommending 12gns is more than conservative! The generally accepted load for a .36 cap and ball revolver is between 18 and 22 grains. So you're 5 below the accepted started load. It's also believed that the sights on modern B/P revolvers are calibrated more towards the stouter loads.

I'd say try 20gns of fine. And, if using Lee dippers, I've just ran some tests with them and a powder measure, 1.3cc scoop will give almost bang on the 20gns of B/P.

Ok that sort of agrees with what my gut feeling was, it feels like it wants driving harder but I do value my fingers! I checked again the online manuals, pietta does indeed recommend 9-12gr fine, yet uberti say 15-25gr with the beautifully phrased caveat "the full maximum charge is seldom used except for hunting or 'showing-off'." !!!!!

Just out of interest a .38 spl case holds as near as damn it 25gr, a .45acp a couple of tenths short of 27gr.
