Didn't you hear? MOD will soon require all combat personnel to carry their rifles mag off, bolt out, a safety flag in the breech and individually proved clear by their sect ldr before moving to the next firing position. It's due to take effect the day after the national hammer ban and a week after the ban on handloads at Bisley.

Apart from in competitions, do some clubs allow people forward of the firing point whilst the guns are loaded, but the safety catches are on?

No...unless you're practicing a run-down...obviously.

You're not wrong to question it, if all you've shot is Target or Gallery rifle and had those safety rules drummed in (and there's nothing wrong with that either) - That's why different types of shooting are called disciplines; and this type of shooting requires some genuine 'discipline' - As has been said, there are safety checks done by individual ROs, and I would imagine (haven't done it since I was at school) that shooters are 'not' expected to just rely on the safety catch, but take care in what they're doing and where they're running...

...probably the most dangerous thing about it would be tripping up and landing badly on your rifle...

Just seemed a bit odd, I've never seen anything like that in UK civilian shooting before. Looks cool though.

Get yourself along to a CSR match ( one a month at Bisley starting October 5th )

During the Falling Plates we were advancing, as civilians, with rifles loaded/made safe (rounds in mag, no rounds in chamber).

For some reason I still don't understand the NRA won't let us do that as a club at Bisley, even with the same ratio of safety supervisors. Makes training for these matches a bit unrealistic.

I'm led to belief that they require the RCO to be SA90(B) qualified, ie a Military RCO qualification, to conduct a Rundown so the NRA RCO qualification alone doesn't cut the mustard.

I plan to at some point soon. Looking forward to it!
