Thanks for all the input guys.to be fair i think the straight pull would be more "tacticool" than practical i think.ill have a look around and a see whats for sale.

I think the silhouette of a bloke roaming the country with an Armalite will give a lot more concern to the locals than a more traditional hunting rifle.

I leave my SGC Speedmaster at home just because of that!

I agree with Countryman, I know there are a few people now using straight pull type AR15 platforms for Rabbit and Fox however I can think of many rifles that much better suited accuracy and weight wise and without spooking the locals. Even the humble Rem700 in .223 is quite capable of regularly shooting 3/4" groups at 150 yards which is more than adequate for hunting/pest control. If it was me and I was reloading for myself I would even look at one of the 20 cal variants as they can be devastatingly accurate.

I use a 14.5" barrelled AR as my main truck gun. If I'm walking around the farm I take my tikka 595. The AR is far nicer to move around within the confines of a landrover.
