Cheers Blu

I've sourced the correct Model 722 buttplate, but not ordered it yet. Same goes to the XP100 Redfield Jr base, sourced but not ordered.
The project SHOULD be relatively straight forward to put together, esp. given that the BDL Varmint donor has the correct barrel from the start (except in a blued as opposed to parkerised finish) & it's still a common rifle, in production - for now at least!!

THE 2015 PROJECT WILL be a pig by comparison.
I hope to turn a pre-war clip slotted Winchester Mod. 70 into a period correct USMC replica...the direct forerunner to the Model 700 (M40) that I'm building on here. Needs a Douglas air gauged barrel, possibly another stock, an maybe a couple of other things.

Found a possible source for the wooden stock...Silver Hill (www.gunville.com)

They're going to be making a new run of M40 stocks shortly.
Have the 721/722 recoil pad sourced, plus the scope base & sling swivels.

Will just need a correct scope & rings.

Only minor issue now, the stock is not fully inletted, so will require some work/fitting.
Bum!!

They are not a bad price either, do you know if they are happy to ship to the UK?

Yes...very happy...maybe the stocks being only partially finished helps there too. But great to deal with so far.

SimG already has one of his Marlin stocks.

Scope arrived yesterday....12 months exactly since the last post!
Taken a year to NOT compromise on a substitute.
Ended up finding a correct Redfield AccuRange 3-9x40, with the range finder reticle.

Also got the 722 buttplate in the same package
Matching correct rings arrived late 2015

Base....still a couple of options
Stock...watch this space (deal pending for a kosher old one)
Also have a spare walnut 700 BDL stock that can be sacrificed to the green paint demons...as some VN stocks were so fettled...

WATCH THIS SPACE....

Ooh, that's pretty.

How you get along with the stock?

The stock....will know more later today.

Have a few options, esp as I'm not too averse to some fettling, i.e. one I've seen would be perfect aside from the barrel channel being for a much thinner lightweight sporter barrel....but I can get the barrel channel tools for not a lot, so a possible project.

I think the only parts I've not sorted are the sling swivels - but they'll be an easy item to find
ETA: One shop in the USA - $85 a set, or from the makers $28...!!
