If the bolt didn't stay to the rear when you pulled back the charging handle how would you prove clear?

Yes it should stay back. I have the loading fingers on mine too. So you drop in a cartridge and touch the feed and the bolt slams forward.

Good advice from 25Pdr! Wish someone had told me that a lot sooner.

The rubber 'O' rings become brittle. It's fairly clear if the need replacement.

I find my 1187 demands cleaning. Many of my guns see a lot of abuse. I have had to pick up the regime on mine.

It's not clear though mate, there's another cartridge ready to chamber.
It just a dry-run with dummy rounds.
One in the ejection port, push the loading gate and then fill the mag.
To empty the Hatsan I'd just rack the bolt til empty then the bolt would stay open. If I try that with the Remmy the bolt stays back on every cart and I have to push the loading gate to chamber it.

I'll be shooting it in a few hours so we'll see how it goes :-)

Well that clarifies it. No that doesn't sound right.

Well it seems absolutely fine. Just run around 120 cartridges through it doing PSG and only failed to eject 2 65mm lighter loads, which it's not supposed to shoot anyways. It must just be a quirk of the particular mechanism, only shooting resets the action properly.

I'm sorry, you must have missed my post above, if you manually cycle the bolt it will lock back each time as you haven't pulled the trigger. When doing cycles with dummy rounds pull the trigger and then operate the bolt. This is how it happens when you shoot for real, and it will cycle properly - just like you found out when you shot it.

It certainly was, though a guy with an M2 and bloody fast trigger finger showed my noob times up a little :-)

Locking open when hand cycled is normal for Remington 1100s and 11-87s. Essentially the bolt locks open every time the gun is fired but the cartridge being released from the magazine hits the release so fast you don't notice it.
If you hand cycle, then at the time the cartridge hits the release your hand is usually still holding the cocking handle preventing it going forward.

If you hand cycle it really quickly, as in fast enough that you don't leave your hand on the handle and let inertia take the bolt fully rearward, you may be able to get it to chamber.

Mine always locked on hand cycling but would work just fine when firing.
