Thanks Trident for those explanations. BTW, can't blame you really, £850 for that overpriced piece of Swiss source of problems, you did well Could have bought yourself two nice DES69 for that sort of money

who said they were destroyed ? Where do you think the de-acts keep coming from ?FredB wrote:Don't be sorry---out of 16 pistols affected by the governmant robbery I had two deactivated. They bothered me every time I saw them---destruction is distruction---we don't keep dead bodies. I sold them off pretty quickly.
The ones I am most proud of are the few that I saved from destruction by getting them exported or on the the Historic Pistol scheme. Best of all was my Colt single action which is now being happily used in a club in Northern Ireland.

Yep, me too... I handed in my 7 pistols (Glocks 17 and 21, S&Ws 686 and M19, Pardini Fiocci, Walther PPK, Erma Colt commander copy), and got a reasonable £4.5k for them and all the kit.Alpha1 wrote:I did the same I well and truly screwed them I replaced every thing I handed in with a one for one variation the compensation I received paid for all the new stuff and still had money left over.
Went straight out and bought rifles with the money...

Bought this yesterday. 4.5mm BB 6 inch nickel. This CO2 air pistol is extremely authentic to the original. The weight is correct and the finish is almost superb. I know it's only a BB but it brings back fond memories.

Re: My Handguns pre-1997.
Chatting with a few ex-pistol owners at the club the other night, someone said the Government had put a D-notice on how much was paid in compensation (a lot more than expected, allegedly).
Not sure if that's true, but I have heard anecdotes of people getting quite generous pay offs.
I think the ban was a mistake - only the criminals now have proper handguns here and I would love the opportunity to shoot CF pistol again - but I have never heard anyone say they were short changed by the compensation.

Who? Me? Really?

Strangely on the boards.ie forums there was someone who mentioned an Irishman who later moved back to Ireland who apparently got a new car out of a basement full of brass. I don't know how true this is.daman wrote:Chatting with a few ex-pistol owners at the club the other night, someone said the Government had put a D-notice on how much was paid in compensation (a lot more than expected, allegedly).

So you never heard that story then? Do you think its true or just an urban legend? Or are you implying some knowledge of something similar and that person still living in London?daman wrote:Wasn't me, I'm still here waveirishflag :flag5:

Could be true, they were buying empty cases during the hand in. The US Navy (Holy Loch) at the time used our Pistol Range and kindly didn't take away their empties, needless to say we collected them. Well come the hand in a couple of us had built up a very large quantity of 45ACP brass which we promptly presented to the Cops, they were a bit pi$$ed but gave us the benefit of the doubt as to the quantity and didn't bother counting them.Sixshot6 wrote:So you never heard that story then? They paid out on lots of stuff like reloading gear, ammo, scopes and even holsters and belts. They were giving £100 minimum for scopes, a cheap airgun scope could be bought for £15 at the time and quite a few of us purchased a sizeable quantity.
BTW Know at least one Guy who filled rounds with Bullseye before he handed them in, I'm sure they would be destroyed anyway.
