Re: Intelligence
PS. I think the most significant thing I did was to move to Canada. I knew I would have trouble with the immigration point system so I just came without paperwork, just the old woman and two bags each. My thoughts were that if they threw us out then we would be no worse off than we were before. They did not throw us out and we are now Canadian citizens. Living in the UK now would frighten me.
Re: Intelligence
What was in the bags, Columbian disco powder?
Seriously though, how'd you get in if you didn't have enough points?
Not that I'm wanting to move to Canadia....

Re: Intelligence
Having UK passports allowed us to stay in Canada for six months without a visa. Just before the six month period was up we crossed the line into the US and came back again, the theory was that as we had left Canada we would be eligible for another 6 months upon our return. Everything worked out fine until the Canada immigration bloke at the border crossing just waved us through, I did not want to be waved through as I needed to get out passports stamped to show when we entered the country, so I stopped the truck. I asked him to stamp our passports and he asked why, so I had to tell him. He then asked where we were living, and I told him on a farm, he asked who owned the farm and I told him that we owned it. ( farms were cheap ) He said let me get this straight, you are living in Canada permanently, and you have even bought a farm here. I told him he was correct. He then said ..We could throw you out... I said I don't think you would do that, ... and he asked ...Why not ? . I replied everyone knows that Canadians are the nicest people in the world and throwing us out would be very nasty, that is how I know you will not throw us out, and anyway what happened to your pioneer spirit ? ( Big thing in Canada ). .....He invited us into the office and told us to take a seat, after what seemed to be an eternity he came back holding two fancy pieces of paper which he gave to us, saying these are good for 18 months. He then said..... if you don't have your paperwork in order by the time these expire come back again and we will give you another one. Welcome to Canada ! :)saddler wrote:What was in the bags, Columbian disco powder?

Re: Intelligence
As I had a farm but was not making hardly any money ( useless farmer ) they asked me if I would like to be schooled in another profession. They gave me a booklet of training courses they offered. I chose bush pilot training

I agree with Explosive, but I went the other way: I left Canada for New Zealand. We have 15 acres miles from the nearest (small) town, on a dead-end road which we share with less than a dozen other families.

Nothing lasts more than 1 year at which point some just start rapidly degrading in effectiveness, some become toxic Most annoying.safetyfirst wrote:

Re: Intelligence
I read that there were a couple that despite a one year shelf life had a 95% efficacy after a decade! The US army did some tests on their stockpiles when it came time to destroy them due to shelf life and found a whole bunch of drugs were just fine.
Re: Intelligence
How did you know back in 2000/2001? That's very early, not many people realised it back then. I twigged around 2004 when house prices were disconnected from salaries and well if you have two brain cells to rub together and you follow your nose, you soon learn how deep the rabbit hole goes. I've got a lot to say on this subject, but in the interest of brevity, I largely agree with your outlook.
