They will only be charged with murder if a shooting is not justified, and if it is not then they should be charged with murder. PS When was the last time a armed police officer was charged and found guilty of murder in the UK. ? I do agree all police should be armed.25Pdr wrote:Wonder how the UK Police would have handled that?
I can't see any armed Plod being keen to shoot anybody nowadays knowing that it will almost certainly be an end to their career and ensure a life of misery and worry that they will be charged with murder for years to come.

Not often we disagree 25pdr but NO WAY25:Well it seems that Police Scotland are putting the welfare of the Criminal before the Public and especially the Rank and File Cop.
I think all UK Police should be armed and see nothing wrong in the 21 foot rule.
Not even for self defence mate, that part aside - until shooters get their pistols and SLR's back plod should be completely disarmed, after all they "took all the guns off the streets" to quote their lies so why do the police need guns now..they do not! I cringe every time I see some of them posing in Airports like they know what their doing...sweeping all and sundry and trying to look cool - with all the accessories from toys'rus strapped to their weapons.Know what you mean Chuck but we will never be allowed to carry guns for self defense. If there is a terrorist attack say in a shopping center good chance an armed plod will be quicker on the scene.
Just think though Chuck, every day at sometime there are a fair amount of civilians going around legally armed, heading for the range or for a spot of hunting. Probably more than the amount of armed Plod.
I am sure some police here are not keen on being armed, it comes with the job if you doint like it tough. Then again if a terrorist organisation was targeting and trying to murder them, i think their view on carrying firearms might change. Its not all about what they want part of the polices job is protecting the public if being armed could help they should be if they doint like it again tough.Les wrote:If the press is to be believed - yes, I know, but bear with me - then the majority of police in the UK don't want to be armed. Giving a gun to somebody whose mindset is already against it is pointless. You can give them all the training in the world, but by the time they decide that armed response really is necessary, it will be too late.
