There are two native snakes in the UK - the Adder (venomous) and the grass snake (non-venomous). The one in the photo is a grass snake. There are also boresnakes, but they don't count!
There is also a slow worm, which looks like a snake but is actually a legless lizard.
Isn't there some moors where Adders live round and about Ovenpaa? I remember once being told by someone I knew about them going for relief and hearing rustling, they later discovered the place was a well known adder nest .

Actually there are three species of native snakes in the UK.... you have forgotten the rather rare Smooth Snake - Coronella austriaca.
Just had a think about it and I am not aware of any specific area within our part of the Wolds which has an abundance of Adders or Grass Snakes. No doubt they are around in parts however I have not come across them so far. Lot of other things though, wild life is booming and we have some interesting and unusual bird life, we spot Harriers from time to time as well as the more common Birds of Prey and head towards the Mud flats/Salt Marshes and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to birds. The little Eygret is an everyday occurrence around Salt Fleet up to Horseshoe Point, we have Brown Hares absolutely everywhere and in significant numbers plus Muntjac and Roe Deer. It is an intensely rich and diverse landscape when it comes to Ecology.
That plus we do not have electricity pylons :)
