Good surround lighting and diffusers are a must. Using a tripod with the camera would work wonders too. Having a good camera helps a lot!

That was a pretty straightforward set up with one flashgun bounced off a white reflector and the other slaved off it filling in the shadows.
Some large pieces of white cardboard and a couple of lights or flashguns carefully arranged are all you need for this sort of thing. And some practice, of course...
As long as you've got some manual control over the camera's settings, it doesn't need to be that expensive to get a good result.
