Depends on what disciplines you shoot. It is definitely not allowed under ISSF Rules, but is not mentioned in NSRA rules.
Just because loads of people have them, does not mean that they are permitted. It is very easy to take one apart and cut the wire which goes to the buzzer.
For many the rule book gets ignored or just used 'in the spirit of'.

I've got one on my phone but as its a smart phone it would be dead halfway through a match if I used it properly! Also I don't particularly want my £500 being dropped/used in heavy rain etc

You can get the CED ones from Bob Dunkley for £90! I'm after one like the Blue Pro II but I just can't bring myself to Spend £150+ on such a simple piece of electronics!
