Re: Sig picked to replace the USGI M9 pistol.
When I was in, the Browning HP was the main service pistol (and AFAIK still is) of Australian Defence Force (ADF), but RAAF pilots/crew were issued with the Glock 19 as the Jet Aircrew Pistol or JAP. I was never a great pistol shot but I always shot better with, and preferred the Glock over the Browning - I was about the only one in the Squadron that did.
Rumour has it that if Glock retrofits a thumb safety, it will be the ADF's replacement for the Browning HP...

I doubt the army would allow you to carry cocked and locked.DaveB wrote:Breacher,
Never said there was anything necessarily wrong with the Glock - I just don't like them. My absolute first choices are steel-framed pistols, preferably ones which can be carried cocked and locked.

Not "rank and file army", but I assure you, it was SOP for several units of the British Army's "Slime" variety....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

They wouldn't fit a safety for the US trial pistol. And considering the numbers offered there compared to those generated by an ADF contract, I reckon the Aussies taking a Glock will happen if the Aussies change their minds. Sig retro fitted one to the P350 however....

Glock can produce pistols with safety catches, I've posted this link in the past-
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009 ... mb-safety/
If I were to carry a pistol on duty, and the threat level required it carried 'made ready' I'd rather have a Sig than a browning, or a glock for that matter.
Double action seems safer, but I am aware that there have been negligent discharges with personnel who were traditionally trained on the browning, but didn't adapt well to the Urgent Operational Requirement Sigs.

I had read several times that Glock had refused for the US Army tests and the British issue doesn't have a safety....
Interesting idea that went away....?

I have used both 9mm and .45acp versions. Simple to use, basic and reliable.
+1 for this... I owned both back in the day and my Glock21 was my favorite gun of all time.

Tastes change there are plenty of Glocks for sale here at a good price, but you could hardly give them away.Daryll wrote:breacher wrote:I would have thought the Glock would be fine as a service pistol !

The Navy Seals have ditched the Sig P226 in favour of the Glock 19
