Re: Lancaster rebuild
Alan, the hangers were painted for the film and you can still see them as they were. There are also many anecdotes from the film period including how they used to drive to the local garage and fill galvanised dustbins on the back of a pick-up with petrol for use with the pyrotechnics.
Re: Lancaster rebuild
His this the Lancaster that was at Blackpool many years back? it had a 500 gall long range tank in
the bomb bay it was flown out on a one flight only basis and they had to pick up a few exhaust
stubs from the runway after it departed, it was on display with a late Seafire that is now flying
in the USA. There was a Vulcan there to but that was cut up only a few years back.

Ahh yes, Holton Le Clay, just where the old railway crossed the road, about a mile east of the A16 on the way to Tetney.

Tall Boy / Grand Slam - Whatever it is, I'd have hated to be under or near it when it went off!
RAF Cosford has loads of great stuff...Standng under a Vulcan with open bomb bay doors was a weird feeling!
I hope they can get these things back and actually fly them with paying passengers, well worth the money.
On a sour note, the place in S Africa that did the Lightning (right up to the edge of space) and Mig trips seems to have folded, should have done that when I had the chance

Re: Lancaster rebuild
We have an ex RAF test pilot in our club and when I talked to him about the Lightning, he simply described it as a man's plane. :)

The MiG-29 Edge of Space flight is £10K. I know it's a lot but as a bucket-list thing to do, that doesn't sounds outrageous.
Re: Lancaster rebuild
This was the company I had in mid...shame they closed.
A Buccaneer, Lightning AND a Hunter, now I am REALLY annoyed I never went! Would have been money more than well spent!
