If I've understood you correctly, should you ask for 7.62/.308 (other than the problems you may have with RFD's/buying ammo as already pointed out) you won't gain anything any way and there's a good chance you'll lose out. If you ask for 7.62/.308 there's a every chance you'll just get 7.62/308 x 500rds. Even if you get 7.62 x 500 and .308 x 500 you'll not get any more than if you just ask for 7.62x39mm x 500 and 7.62x54R x 500, and you'll have an ammo slot you can't use....

Further .308 is generally regarded as a specific cartridge i.e. .308Win, not a generic calibre like 7.62 is i.e. it can be the two Russian calibres, 7.62x51mm etc etc

So I will put one slot for 7.62x 39 rifle. One slot for 7.62 x 54r rifle. Then one slot each for 7.62x39 & 7.62x54r ammo
Will it be ok to put rifle and not straight pull?

Do you have any evidence that that would be acceptable?

I always thought requests needed to be calibre specific, and how would you request an ammo holding for a bolt action rifle?

Yes, just put the slots down as you've listed them.

Annoyingly the description part of the firearm varies from police force to police force, some will just issue it with 'rifle' others ask for a specific action type. This is further complicated by there being several different computer systems throughout the country which form the National Firearms Licensing Management System (NFLMS), and some allow 'new' action types to be entered, others just allow the FEO to select one from a drop down list, so you'll get some FAC's with 'straight-pull' as the action type and some as 'bolt-action' even though they cover the same make/model gun

In fairness there are only action options available for the 7.62x39mm rifle i.e. straight-pull/bolt-action and trigger-release (lots of fun but quite expensive!), as far as i'm aware there are only straight-pull 7.62x54R rifles but i'd happily be corrected on that.
