There's an excellent thread on a self-build induction annealer
here, but note: it runs to 71 pages and counting.
I've started towards building something similar, but using a beefier rectifier and induction unit plus a touch screen UI and Dillon case-feeder. It's queued behind a number of other projects though.
When complete I don't really expect improvements in performance (e.g. due to neck tension consistency), just extended brass life. I say this because 'tension' is provided by the elastic component of brass deformation, and it's my understanding that annealing leaves the elastic component relatively unchanged and mostly affects plastic deformation (I may be quite wrong about this though). Latest I heard from one shooting legend was that annealing (for performance) is quite out of fashion now - mind you, that was after he started working for Nammo Lapua :)
Anyway we're in grave danger of causing this thread to be moved to a more appropriate forum, so I suggest starting a thread on annealing in the
Reloading and Ammunition forum and meanwhile, welcome to FBUK
..

Thanks for the information and it’s a very interesting that annealing doesn’t effect the brass elasticity.
What caliber do you shoot?

I’m with Frome District Pistol Club (Although live in Chippenham). We have 50m full bore indoor facilities in Shepton Mallet and various days out at military ranges. Let me know if you want further information.

Hi,
That would be great! I would love to know more about these ranges. Regarding the pistol club, do you have to use the long length pistols?
Thanks again
Harry

Check out
www.fdpc.co.uk and drop me a message if you want more info.
We have members with LBP and LBR, also black powder / Nitro. Both target and practical facilities.

That was based on just one particular research paper; there may be others that say something completely different.
Actually that prompted me to look-up some other research, in this case specifically into annealing rifle brass. It concluded:
- Annealing does reduce the hardness of rifle brass, but:
- After annealing there was more *variation* in hardness than before!
To me that says: "If there is a performance effect, it *might* even be a negative one!".
The research speculated that the increased hardness variation might be due to the 'crude' annealing process in use, but no other processes were tested to validate that theory. The process used a rotating case in a propane flame, timed to a period established using Tempilaq. I *think* it was a manual process, not mechanical.
It would be interesting to look at different methods to see which produces a more consistent anneal. In the case of induction annealing I wondered whether controlling the process to a set number of watts might be more consistent than time-based control. As it happens I was discussing case annealing with a student who was considering it for a research project. I'll find out if he has started.

Sounds very interesting and it sounds like to have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to reloading.
I can see you are also a brand Ambassador for Reloader Swiss.I recently just bought some reloader Swiss RS62 powder. I shoot a .260rem out of a 26” Barlein barrel, I just did some load testing with this powder and the hornady 147g eld bullet. I can’t seem to find a max charge weight anywhere for this combination however found there seems to be a pressure node at 42.3g of powder. At this charge I am getting 2710fps, is that about right? I was hoping to get a slightly higher velocity.
Thank
