Yes I noticed that its got a spring loaded wedge that locks the lever in the closed position I did wonder if that was the problem I gave it a clean made sure it moved with out any issues and gave it a drop of oil.

Plus 1 on that spring! They rossi springs is a nightmare sometimes! A mate has 2 in his garage roof somewhere, along with 1 ruger 10/22 spring and 3 buckmark springs and the bloody plastic holder! He uses an umbrella now when taking apaet and assembling!

Well that is not as bad as having a Norton 500 sidevalve spring in the kitchen ceiling....

Or the little springs and balls from inside the synchro assembly of a gearbox somewhere on the garage floor.

But in fairness, with some work they can be made to function very nicely when kept clean. Just a tad fussy about ammo weight distribution.

As I said its a club gun meant to be used to train probationers. But its no good if it keeps going wrong that will do nothing for there confidence. My own under levers are Winchesters and they just work but I,m not about to let probationers mess them about.

This!!! After being at my club for a few months I was very surprised to hear one of the coaches say that he had cleaned all the rifles... Why not make us do it?

I will correct myself there. "Make" is a strong word.... encourage is a better one. Luckily when I bought my own rifle a fellow member helped me with a cleaning guide. Not a bad idea to add to a probationers training.
