308 - bullet choice

The only time I use jacketed bullets at less than 200 yards is for load development and chronographing. I'm currently using around a thousand cast bullets a year in my 7.62 alone. Groups are not much different from what i achieve with my Anschutz super match and match ammo. My favourite bullet is the Lee 200 gr.

Absolutely, cast at 100 yards is a no brainer.

Please forgive my ignorance, but if I'm hoping for better than what I'm using at the moment, how do cast bullets achieve this?
I know nothing about casting, but assume there's kit and materials costs.

I'll stick with bought bullets, as it avoids opening yet another can of worms...

Eh? I did want advice, which is why I asked the question.
Instead of helpful answers, the response I got was "use the search function".
Which wasn't very helpful.

So I ask for advice, don't get it, accept that I'm not getting any and then get grief for not wanting advice.
I'm very confused.

You can buy cast bullets, you don't have to cast them yourself. I have some that I bought, already lubed and fitted with gas checks, all ready to load just like a jacketed bullet. The load data is different though.
You say you get OK results from jacketed. What group size are you looking for compared to what you get now?

Currently under 1" at 100m. On a really good day .75". But I know I can do better. Would like to get to consistent .5" groups.
Getting a few fliers and would like to improve accuracy if possible, because I'd like to go out to longer distances at some point.

Firstly, I don’t rate PPU bullets. I know some people do. Laurie Holland, the absolute oracle in rifle accuracy here in the U.K. I believe speaks highly of the PPU Match bullet. That’s not my experience. So, any quality bullet will beat it as far as I’m concerned. My “standard” is Sierra, with Berger being and outstanding bullet.

Half inch consistency…? What’s your rifle? An off the shelf rifle is not going to give you that level of performance. Coupled with this, actually physically shooting consultant 1/2” groups is beyond the skill set for an awful lot of people. Are you sure your performance level is up there?

An off the shelf rifle, with -PPU bullets and a half decent shooter, may not as the sum of its parts, be able to give you what you want. And changing or improving just one element may still not be enough.
