A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Around here, if you contact the department, your application gets put at the bottom of the pile...

I mean, I like your presumption they can read, let alone that they read newspapers

Why bother applying themselves when they can just steal them from existing owners thanks to the Gun Trader leak and subsequent publishing of every member of the sites name, address, contact details and location, which is still very much out there

Re: Firearms Licencing Failures
Back around 1995ish an acquaintance of mine shot and killed another acquaintance (we all drank in the same pubs in town) with his legally held pistol over a drug dealing feud.
I was out of the country at the time and when I eventually came back to the UK and found out about the killing the first thought I had was how on earth did get an FAC when 'everyone' in town knew he was a drug dealer!
I'm 'sure' things have tightened up since then though....probably.....

I rang my licencing office to day with a query about my certificate. (Cleveland) the Guy emailed me a new certificate and informed me that a paper copy is in the post. The whole thing took half an hour.
