Very sad to read about the fort and its current state. So didn’t read right you are not there anymore? Curious to learn if the length of the range as well?
I saw from wiki it had a lump of cash chucked at it a number years ago. Did that go far?

It's supposed to be 25 yards but not sure of the accuracy of that measurement. The club is in touch with the council as there are plans being discussed for the fort's future. The facilities were never good but some work parties kept it in a usable condition. Like a lot of clubs, the older members died off and it suffered with people having other commitments.
As far as I know, the money was spent on repairs to one part of the building to make it into a teaching area for schools and societies. When covid hit, it was closed. Gradually nature took over and covered the parade ground in greenery.
The club were briefly allowed back in but then it was deemed unsafe. There was a group of military vehicle enthusiasts that stored things there. Also an air museum. Some of the items were on loan so needed to be collected by the owners which wasn't a quick process. Eventually the fort was locked and left to decay a bit more.

So sorry to read this. Sadly - heritage is not always seen as something to be seen as delivering value for money. I really hope there is better news for you all at some point.

There was a pistol club at Waverly railway station in Edinburgh. I will try to attach an extract from a local paper explaining a bit more.

I classify this range as unusual for two reasons:
1. It is free
2. It is a 100 meter completely indoor range.
I've not used it because I don't enjoy shooting indoors but it is quite popular with casual shooters. I belong to an outdoor facility that has multiple outdoor 25/50/100/500/1,000 yd ranges.
