Re: Construction of the Enfield Paper Cartridge
the bullets I use have grease grooves, but I am taking a newbie with me so its easier to keep an eye on them this way
Re: Construction of the Enfield Paper Cartridge
Again, very interesting! I can't imagine the nightmare faced trying to keep these things dry!

Thanks.Michael Sproul wrote:Again, very interesting! I can't imagine the nightmare faced trying to keep these things dry!
Black powder does attract moisture in the air, but as long as the cartridges are packaged and stored correctly there wouldn't be a problem.
Re: Construction of the Enfield Paper Cartridge
first class article and well described and illustrated, I've been using a similar method, but use that horrible jaggy, shiney, izal medicated toilet paper, that the british army and all public toilets used for years, as an inner for the powder and ball. Then stiffer 80g. printer paper as an outer. I use a 50/50 mix of beeswax and lard for lube and sealing cartridges

So do you wrap your bullet in the inner tube as well as the powder?but use that horrible jaggy, shiney, izal medicated toilet paper, that the british army and all public toilets used for years, as an inner for the powder and ball
Re: Construction of the Enfield Paper Cartridge
yes but I lightly score the outer paper above the level of the grease rings so when you bite the bullet the paper tears evenly, leavig the bullet quite well patched
Re: Construction of the Enfield Paper Cartridge
I have just bought the splendid P1853 featured in Andrews Article and I am very much looking forward to giving it a go, great article!

Ok... mini freak-out.
If you search for "Enfield Paper Cartridge Construction" this article appears as the second hit on Google search! WTH??
I've been told by huntervixen that he's had some of his foreign mates stumble across it already... never really occurred to me that it could be read, and maybe even help, numerous other non-Full-Bore (UK)ers
I dunno, just an odd feeling is all.
... how do I claim my royalties?

Second hit? It needs to be first! Unfortunatly the forum is not a money making excercise so no royalties quite yet
