This years long range chambering for F Open

Sorry for the OT question but curiosity has bettered me! How many of you guys compete in F-class, national or local?

We have a few F Class shooters on the forum, Vince, Sanselm who won the F/TR class Europeans this year, Dangermouse, 20series, Ex-Skydiver spring to mind, they are all league shooters. I prefer to shoot the Bisley based F Open competitions.

The 2013 world champs will be bordering on a military operation, you certainly will not be able to turn up the day before, shoot the comps and return home again.
I would suggest that the way to go would be to either make sure that you are in the UK team or have made some contribution to wards being able to share their expertise and logistics.

As I see it, and I might be wrong, there needs to be a shipping container with all the re loading gear and everything else that can not easily be carried on a plane. The team will probably be arriving at the very least one week a head of the main competition and may even get there earlier still if other comps are being ran which will give the guys a chance to get their eye in.
Apparently mirage is the big thing on that range, perhaps you have more experience than the UK lads?
I would not be surprised to hear that some will be turning up with completely new barrels, as it is unlikely that anyone will have a load for the range. Everyone will need to start from scratch and develop a load for them before the competition.
When I realised what was required to get to the range never mind shoot the comp, I had to put my hands up and admit that there was no way that I could afford to even think about attending.

Are the 2013 championships team only shooting or are there individual events as well? If so it may be possible to enter as an individual.

The 2013 F Class champs is not team only entries but in theory any one who can afford it and can sort out the logistics can attend,

I understand that powder charges are likely to be several grains less than a UK load. The increase in temp, altitude and air density alone will affect MV and presure.

There has already been a meeting for the preliminary GB Squad for Ratton 2013, we were advised that load development out there was a MUST and a recce party were going there this year with a selection of barrels in a variety of chambering to see what issues there were and what worked best...


Will be very interesting to see the results.

Chambering of choice, is at the moment 284 (284 Shehane) and 7 WSM although, as pointed out, string shooting is going to affect barrel life.

Both Open and FTR are not cheap sports, the Arms Race remains firmly in place.....
