As SimG mentioned, you cannot go wrong with a Savage off the shelf.

I reckon it would be worth contacting sanselm on this forum and have a chat with him. He might have something that is suitable.

Not sure if he is back from the ShotShow yet though...

Are you going to the Shooting Show end of Feb? Loads of goodies there to look at...sanselm will be there.

Would an Armalon AL42 be suitable? Would probably work out as being more expensive than the Savage though..

The Savage 12BVSS is without doubt the most accurate, off the shelf rifle I have ever owned. In .223, it is a five shot laser out to 600 and as I've said before, even out to 800 (the furthest I've had it) it was outstanding......

There is a heavy barrel Howa in my local RFD. Sitting at around £500 but has been there for months so you could probably get a good deal on it.

I have a savage F/tr in 223. Shoots 80 or 90 gr bullets very well. If you want something to be more wind affected in order to practice at 600 yards you'd better steer clear mind - it's just as good as .308 in the wind.

Reloading is hard work mind as it's very sensitive to changes in powder load.

You could run the 77smk, which is pretty bad in the wind and will do what you want.

I suspect shooting the 308 more will be of more use tbh.

Logic valid point

If I shoot less efficient bullets at more reduced speed I increase wind effect
:-P
Learn there then

I would go out and look for a BVSS, they are floor fed but you can get a bottom metal conversion for them if needed. Accuracy wise they rock.
