It is the kind of thing one buys at the markets these days...well it looks that way.

Service or Vetran rings. Very popular in the US still today.

Not sure you are right, that ring he is wearing is ornately detailed on the side, it is turned slightly on his finger as if it is too big for him. Looks like a small stone in the middle of the ring. My guess would be a girl friend's ring?

Some of the veteran rings can be very ornate and have stones added. But as you say, a girlfriends ring, possibly, considering the finger it is on....

But, if it is his GF's, how big were her hands?!!!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

They are solid as well, just like the ones SimG posted a link to.
The one he is wearing is not solid. I am not educated within the ring world for men at that time but to me it does look like an odd design ring to wear...

Asian design?

Impressive picture.
A charge of 60,000 lbs (26.8 tons) of Ammonal explosive was blown at 7.28am resulting in a crater 90 feet deep and 300 feet across.
Impressive stats...
