The modern oracle . i.e. Wikipedia proclaims

1. Clusters of natural disasters, patterns of apocalyptic planetary crises, or Earth Changes (tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, blizzards, solar storms, severe thunderstorms)
2. A disaster caused by the activities of humankind (chemical spills, release of radioactive materials, nuclear or conventional war, oppressive governments)
3. The general collapse of society caused by the shortage or unavailability of resources such as electricity, fuel, food, or water
4. Financial disruption or economic collapse (caused by monetary manipulation, hyperinflation, deflation, or depression)
5. A global pandemic
6. Widespread chaos or some other unexplained apocalyptic event"
As we all can see that the above is totally unrealistic and any person that displays even the smallest levels of an "survivalised" attitude MUST be by definition a mad hatter.
1. WW1, WW2, the ARAB Spring 2011-2012, a few wars in Israel, the Boer War, 2004 Tsunami, NZ earthquakes, US tornado's, 2011 Japan earthquake and nuclear disaster, London Hurricane, UK floods 2005,
* if you were on certain sides / places survival was a BRUTAL situation
* death camp, prisoner of war camps
2. Exxon valdez, Chernobyl, 3 mile island, Swansea depot explosion 2911
3. Supplies of the deemed basics of water, gas, electricty are subject to several failures
* in 1080's a UK water firmed allowed 20,000 people to be poisoned by the water they supplied and they KNEW it
* Go to Africa - you provide you own basics as much as possible - heck in South Africa - Municipal water has typhoid - electricity is cut off for days
4. Financial Markets 1933, 1976, 1998, 2008 / 2009 - TODAY
5. Spanish Flu 1918 - 1920 (20 Million), Bird Flu 2009, AIDS 1976 ..................,

* The London Riots in 2011 - a the largest Police Force in the UK stood and watched as bands of thugs burnt business and homesand killed and robbed people and they and did NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! :?
* Does this qualify as "Widespread chaos"? Having been in a few "tense" situations as a cop in a place that most here could not even contemplate I can tell you that there is no such thing as a small riot! The potential for escalation is vast! If you are the one caught in that situation it may be the single most dangerous and life changing event of your existance.

This ignores the basics of everyday life that qualify as "survivialism" - wearing correct clothes for weather, carryng a swiss army knife, looking right or left, How about not walking into certain areas of London at certain or even all times of the day and HECK in your own home at 3 am - in case some cretin of indeterminate parentage, colour, education, alcholic / drug addiction culture and or football group decides to "liberate" you of your possessions AND of course the biggest risk you face is that you actually dare defend yourself.
Then the wrath of the
law, health and safety, EU and Human rights will put you through the wringer.
And that is before the
free press - chasing after a headline will distort, lie, fail to disclose, break the law, breach civil liberties, taint and rape the facts of the event to suit the particular political agenda of the editor, publisher or politician that wants to gain something from some else misfortune.
IN SUMMARY
As you can see I have clearly proved that only the deluded and Walter Mitty types are survivalists. They are obviously loony.
So no sane, decent, law abiding, moderate citizen can dare to being prepared for these ridiculous events. We live in a free country, protected by honest politicians, well trained, equipped and lead police and armed forces. We have a free press to protect or rights.
So I would be very happy to talk to a "balanced TV programme" and expose myself to being labelled and branded!
