Well you know that dodgy .308 Remington you sold me a couple of years ago!! :lol: No only kidding,
I've had it rebarreled with a 32" 1/10 Trueflite for having a bash at FTR comps next year, been down the club today and shot it in,
I made a start on load development as well just some basic loads 45, 45.5 and 46 grains of Varget and a 175 SMK. I think I need to get hold of some heavier bullets though maybe 190's or even 200's to see how they go.

Have a read of Laurie's articles on 308 for long range F T/R, I wouldn't waste any time on the 175 SMK it falls short of the other bullets by a long margin. On the other hand a serious MR shooter has been trying to persuade me to shoot the 200 gr SMK's as they believe them to be amongst the finest bullets made having done extensive testing. Another really good one is the Berger 185gr Boat Tail Target NOT the VLD, thats if you can find them and are willing to pay the price for them.

Thanks for the info, i'll have a look around for some 200 smk's to try. I dont think i can justify the price for Bergers.

Yes, but I believe that can only be ammunition you loaded yourself, not factory or another's homeloads.

I think I have a few 190 SMK's at home that I dont think I will use, you are welcome to them if they are any use to you. Pretty sure I saw some the other night when I was hunting for some 7.92's - will have a look tonight and let you know if I find them. (hope it wasnt just an empty box )

I got a collectors ticket on the grounds that I had no intention of keeping 1500 rounds of live Ball, expanding and AP up to 19.2mm in the house.

Do yourself a favour Al....just in case.....
Make sure you are under the weight limit for F/TR BEFORE you turn up at a comp and are offered a hacksaw
A few I know that bunged a 32" heavy on where once it was 30" medium palma came a cropper and spent ages trying to work out how to get it under weight.
