Please correct me if I am wrong...

What Miliscer is pointing out is that in order to gain NRA membership one does not need a SCC?

In order to shoot at a MOD range one needs a SCC.

Are those two statements correct?

I'm not sure the NRA is struggling for members, I get a distinct sense sometimes that there are factions with some sway within the NRA that like membership base the way it is.

Christel - you are correct as SCC are for different types of firearm. I have iron, scoped and Gallery rifle but I'm not certified for anything else so if I was joining today wanting to shoot muzzleloading rifle would they turn me away? Of course not!

NO! but I have one anyway!!

To join as a FULL member - I either needed to be an FAC holder - check!! OR a FULL club member - Check!! (Details supplied) or a Member of the armed services or police and supply evidence (NOT check anymore!!) - or join as a probationary member.

So I could have used EITHER option one or option 2. I put down details for BOTH and supplied what was required.

They still could not figure it out!!

Forgive me if I'm teaching granny, this has been discussed before.

The NRA is not making a profit from the cards (or it wasn't when I was on the inside) merely charging for the extra staff time.

The MOD insist that we have cards on their ranges, the MOD insists that the NRA runs it.

Our sport, all of it was in jeopardy, the original MV maximum which MOD wanted to impose would have affected calibres down to .243. .303/308 and the like would have been excluded.

Were it not for the hard work by some members of NRA and, in particular, Colonel Billy Bowles who was tasked by the MOD to implement some draconian restrictions and who adopted a very sensible and balanced approach, we would all be shooting small bore.

Like the NRA or not, you are already benefiting from it's work. Like the NRA or not, it is increasingly being seen as the governing body for fullbore target shooting. If it fails ar falls you won't be able to give your guns away.

It is very important that potential new members are made aware of that if they wish to join the NRA they do not need a SCC.

In order to shoot on MOD land, they do.

From the replies received here I am concluding that nowhere does it say that the SCC is needed to be a NRA member.

People could join in order to get the insurance with no intention of ever shooting at Bisley.

Maybe Nick needs prodding to post a new thread about newbies...
