Hi
They never worked well.
We had all sorts of problems. The theft of the comms units was just the last in a long line of issues. Replacement units have not yet been made available.
There are financial issues, but the main problems have been technical.

Perhaps I am unique then because I hated the things. Maybe it's my age but all these electronic things that don't always function properly, with screens I can't read when the sun shines leave me cold. Leave well alone I say.

Always had good experiences with military AMS screens, never got to use the electronic ones at Bisley before they were stolen.
Rather makes you wonder why they were stolen. I mean, a set of acoustic pickups can't really have many applications outside of the range, could they?

You overestimate the intelligence of some thieves. If it's got a cable attached it must be worth something.

Silly question. Were they insured?

I believe they were.
And the bit that was stolen was the little processor / junction box below the target screen. Utterly pointless as it has no other application and the scrap value would be about a quid if you were lucky.

If they were insured then why hasn't a claim been made and the targets reinstated? If the company who supplied them has not fulfilled their side of the deal then why haven't they been taken to task over it?
These electronic targets seem to be a huge white elephant and yet another waste of the member money.
Surely one of the people who were made redundant could have been given the task of sorting these out? and saved at least one persons job and given the NRA members another facility to use.

The wireless electronic targets were a failed experiment and the NRA fell for it.
The theft of the boxes, co-incidentally a few days after we had a request to look at them, was a great relief to the Range Office Staff and to the guys in the target shed, who wasted a great deal of time on the system too.
I never had any problems with them, but then I only shot midweek when the airwaves were clearer.
The omni directional aerials wasted much of the small amount of power available and the operating system on the monitors was too slow and unfit for purpose.
The whole set up was wrong, I know, I wish I had ten pence for every minute of my time I spent re-booting, changing batteries etc.
A month ago I shot at Blair Athol, 1000x. There were thirty odd of us and I didn't hear one complaint about lost shots or mis-plotted ones.
We (in the Range Office at the time) proposed, suggested, begged for a wired system but were ignored.
Numerous 'get it working by.. Or take it out' deadlines were passed without someone having the courage to take action.
Offers of sponsorship were turned down! wtfwtf
Perhaps the new management will persue the matter in a sensible manner?
I shall not hold my breath but it is on my wish list

I will say it.
To this day I have never understood why this very minor but very specific piece of circuitry was removed and also wonder who would benefit from such a theft which would lead me to ask the question were they stolen to order to hide the inadequacies of the system or the original procurement source.
Stolen to order maybe?
Just thinking out loud and I an sure I am not the first...
