Notice the difference in the skyline behind the ship in the recent photos vs. the old. A lot of construction has happened in 32 years.

My parents have some great pictures of them and my children on HMS Belfast, it was always a firm favourite for them to visit.

Good to see both of the ol' girls. Got to love a Naval warship. stgeo Out of interest, does anyone know what the US jack is?

Going from memory, it could be just the stripes part of the US flag with a snake and text.

I served in Belfast's sister ship HMS Blake. One of my other early commissions Was and old ship. HMS Relentless.




The ship's song was 'We all live in a crabby type fifteen' sung to the tune of the Beatles Yellow Submarine. I can't publish any more!

There was a periscope inside the mast, when we used it from the Ops. Room to tell a trainee officer of the watch that we could see someone on a passing ship waving, by using the radar, they usually fell for it.

My ex's Grandad was on HMS Southampton which I believe was a sister ship of Belfast when it was bombed and finally finished off by torpedos from another Royal Navy ship on one the Malta convoys, January of 1941 stgeo

Are you sure?

Belfast was a Town Class Cruiser, the first set were the Southampton variant, the second was Gloucester, which is where Belfast was originally ordered, but the third Edinburgh which is the type Belfast was built as.

Blake was a Tiger class cruiser - Tiger, Blake and Lion of which the first two were converted to helicopter cruisers.

You are right, Blake was a 'Tiger' class.
