I asked the same question of Surrey police as I had three possible locations in mind. They said to wait and discuss with FEO. I guess every force is different.

Surrey were quite happy with my arrangements which were installed prior to the visit, and the paperwork was processed more quickly as a result. But there's always a chance that they might spot a problem with your installation then you could face having to move it, so if you ask them they will naturally recommend that you wait until after an intial visit before installing. I always recommend that potential pre-installers read Guidance to the Police, which gives more of an insight into the perspective of the FEO, and supplements the information in the Firearms Security 'Brief Guide'.

I waited until my FAC was confirmed before I even bought a cabinet, as there was a mass of medical info for the FLD to wade through. Even though it took quite a while, they were fine with making two visits, I guess the FEO likes our biscuits!!

Even when sorting a mistake out, the FEO came back to see us ( more biscuits !! ) - though it seemed to me that this was unnecessary, he was happy to do so, and is welcome any time, as he is a decent knowledgeable and helpful type of guy.

Well with all the good advice here, i actually telephoned up my local firearms dep and they were extremely helpful, and the advice was to fit the safe before my visit :good:

Also asked about back log and was told all up to date, well worth the call sign92
