Isn't the Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk VI pretty much like rocking horse you know what?HALODIN wrote:Based on everything I've read on wiki, I wanted a Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk VI, but I'd struggle to justify my reasoning now. I can imagine having several books on .303s, it's one of those subjects everyone has an opinion on I guess.
What's special about the Fazakerley? Apart from the carbines they all look extremely similar to me. Yes I like open sights as well, it's a bit more manly...
Dombo63 wrote:No 4 Mk 2. Picked up a very nice late model Fazakerley. Good bore, overall excellent condition, and shoots way beyond my current abilities! I tried an old SMLE and a No5 as well but just got on better with the No 4. Also it's nice to have open sights so I can get competent with them as well as the scope on the 700.
Re: First Rifle
I don't know... I just sat down and read about the history of the Enfield .303 and that rifle stood out as one of the better .303's. If you think they're scarce then I guess they are a good rifle. I have a feeling it's going to take a long time to find the right Enfield!

Re: First Rifle
They do exist, I'm pretty sure one of the guys in our club had one but I have never seen it as much as I'd love to. I would like one, I like the site set up with the peep site over the v-notch as on an SMLE. I think I remember reading in Skennertons book that they didn't make many at all in the low thousands possibly but don't quote me on that!
Re: First Rifle
I have just remembered, I know a man with a couple of very good No4 mk1. I've seen them and they are imactulate. PM me with your email and I can put in touch!
Re: First Rifle
I can see the Enfield .303 is a connoisseurs rifle! I bet it takes me months to decide which one I want let alone find one!
Re: First Rifle
...cut back on the sugar/sweeties & buy some reference books - you'll get there in the end - possibly
Re: First Rifle
That's a good point actually. Are there any good reference book stalls at the British Shooting Show?
Re: First Rifle
Skennerton's The Lee Enfield Story is very good, if quite pricey. He has also done some shorter pamphlets on specific rifles.
