Re: What hearing protection
We have both been using moulded plugs by this company http://www.greenleopard.co.uk/index.htm
They were in the Lord Roberts Centre a Bisley a few years ago. They did the moulding there and then sent the finished items to us. Moulded plugs are good in the summer if you tend to get sweaty while wearing ear muffs.

So, it's advisable to get cans as they offer much enhanced protection over simple foam plugs.
Am I correct in assuming that the moulded plugs have the same disadvantage as the foam ones as articulated above?

We both have a pair of the Howard Leights, I got them off Amazon for about £60 each about a year ago with no problems so far, not sure if they are still available through them.billgatese30 wrote:I bought a set of these a while ago and they are excellent. Much better than the "cheap" electronic ear defenders you can get from most industrial suppliers etc, and these typically retail at around the £90-100 mark in this country.

They arrived in about 2 weeks without any hassle.
Here is a UK based seller selling the same.

If you can't afford £100+ then I can't see anything that will touch them at the eBay price.

I'm no medical expert but I would think so.dromia wrote:SevenSixTwo wrote:Foam ear plugs are all well and good but people new to shooting should be aware that the sound from a gun goes through the skull in the area of the ear as well as directly into the ear drum itself. Re: What hearing protection
No, as the better moulded plugs have electronic inserts, where as the foam are just bits of foam

That makes no difference in relation to what Sevensixtwo wrote.

Maybe you would like to do some research before being so dismissive as usual?
Start with the CENS stuff and then some of the research papers on the subject. Might be better than listening to all you read on the internet and dismissing others.

Re: What hearing protection
I wear a set of Peltor Tac6-s cans for normal outdoors use but back them up with foam plugs when indoors with centrefire or shooting 3 gun with a muzzle brake.
If I'm rough shooting with a shottie then I'm a bad boy & don't use anything.

Same here, just got some replacements from ebay, £50.99 inc delivery and arrived in under a week which I thought was a good price.Oddbod wrote:I wear a set of Peltor Tac6-s cans for normal outdoors use but back them up with foam plugs when indoors with centrefire or shooting 3 gun with a muzzle brake.
